Las Vegas Hardscape Installation That Holds

Legacy Outdoor Living handles premium hardscape installation in Las Vegas for residential properties across the valley, covering everything from paver patios and travertine pool decks to custom retaining walls and outdoor living surfaces. We've been doing this specific work in this specific climate for 24 years, under Nevada contractor licenses #0092251 and #0094033, which cover both masonry/concrete and landscaping. If you want hardscape that doesn't shift, crack, or fade after a couple of summers, call (702) 508-1226 and we'll come take a look at what you're working with.

What separates a hardscape installation that lasts from one that doesn't isn't the surface material. It's what's underneath it. Las Vegas sits on expansive clay soil in some neighborhoods and caliche-heavy ground in others, and both punish a lazy base preparation. We excavate to proper depth, install compacted aggregate base, and account for the drainage your yard actually has before a single paver goes down. Material selection matters too: concrete pavers hold up well in desert UV but absorb more heat; porcelain is cooler underfoot and UV-stable but demands more precise installation; natural travertine is the premium choice for pool decks and high-end patios, with natural slip resistance that Clark County pool deck standards specifically favor. Project scope, surface area, material grade, site access, and existing soil conditions all drive the final investment significantly. Every job is different, contact Legacy Outdoor Living for an accurate estimate.

Our Work

Hardscape Surfaces We Install

From front-entry walkways to full outdoor living builds, we handle the complete scope under one crew and two Nevada licenses.

Paver Patios

Interlocking concrete and porcelain paver patios sized for how you actually use your backyard, with proper base prep for Las Vegas soil conditions. We don't pour a thin base and hope for the best.

Travertine Installation

Natural travertine is the surface of choice for pool decks and covered patios in high-end Las Vegas homes. Cooler underfoot than concrete, naturally slip-resistant, and it photographs well, which your neighbors will notice.

Driveways

Paver driveways carry more load and flex more forgivingly than poured concrete slabs when desert soil shifts. We engineer the base for vehicle weight, not just foot traffic.

Pool Decks

Pool deck work requires specific attention to slip resistance, drainage slope, and heat management. Porcelain and travertine both perform here; which one you choose depends on your aesthetic and your budget.

Walkways

Entry paths and garden walkways tie the whole yard together. We match materials to what's already on your property so nothing looks like an afterthought.

Retaining Walls

Slope grading, caliche excavation, and structural wall placement are masonry work, not landscaping guesswork. License #0094033 covers this specifically, and we've built hundreds of walls across the valley.

How We Build

Our Hardscape Installation Process

  1. 01

    Site Assessment and Design

We walk the property, evaluate soil type and drainage, confirm grade requirements, and settle on material selection before any equipment touches your yard. No surprises once the job starts.

  2. 02

    Base Excavation and Prep

We excavate to the correct depth for your material and traffic load, compact a crushed aggregate base in lifts, and verify drainage slope before any surface course goes down. This is the part most crews cut short.

  3. 03

    Surface Installation and Finishing

Pavers or stone go in to pattern, cuts are made on site, joints are filled and compacted, and the surface is sealed where the material calls for it. We start at 6:30 AM to beat summer heat on full-day pours and setting work.

Why Las Vegas Hardscape Fails Early

The desert doesn't forgive base prep shortcuts, and neither do we.

Most hardscape failures in the Las Vegas Valley come down to two things: inadequate base depth and ignored drainage. The clay soils common in Henderson and parts of North Las Vegas expand when wet and contract when dry, and that movement telegraphs directly to whatever surface is on top of it. Pavers crack. Mortar joints open. Travertine shifts. We've seen five-year-old jobs that look fifteen years old because the contractor laid everything on four inches of base sand and walked away. We also don't subcontract the masonry work out to a separate crew. The same team that does your landscape design handles the hardscape, which means your drainage plan and your surface plan are coordinated from the start instead of bolted together after the fact. That coordination is what keeps water moving away from your foundation instead of pooling under your new patio. UV exposure is the other factor most crews don't account for in material selection. Las Vegas gets roughly 294 sunny days per year, and standard concrete pavers will fade noticeably in three to five years without UV-stable pigment and proper sealing. Porcelain and natural stone hold color longer. We'll tell you which material makes sense for your specific situation, not just which one is easiest to install.

Hardscape Installation Questions

What paver materials hold up best in Las Vegas heat and UV exposure?
Porcelain pavers are the most UV-stable option available. They don't absorb heat the way concrete pavers do and they won't fade noticeably even after years of direct desert sun. Concrete pavers are durable and cost-effective, but require UV-stable pigment and sealing to maintain color. Natural travertine performs exceptionally on pool decks and shaded patios. The right choice depends on where the surface is, how much direct sun it gets, and what you're spending per square foot.
How does Las Vegas soil affect hardscape base preparation?
Las Vegas sits on a mix of expansive clay soils and caliche, both of which create movement problems for hardscapes with inadequate bases. Caliche is dense and may require mechanical breaking before you can reach stable subgrade. Clay expands when it absorbs water during monsoon season and contracts in dry periods, which shifts surfaces above it. We excavate to the depth your material and traffic load require, then compact aggregate base in layers to create a stable, drainage-friendly foundation.
Do concrete pavers crack in Las Vegas due to soil movement?
Properly installed interlocking pavers rarely crack because the joints between them allow for minor flex and movement. A poured concrete slab cracks more easily under soil movement because there's no flex in the system. That said, even interlocking pavers will heave or sink if the base preparation was inadequate. The stone doesn't fail. The base fails. We've corrected enough poorly-installed paver patios across the valley to know exactly where the skipped steps show up.
How long does premium hardscape installation take in Las Vegas?
A standard backyard patio runs two to four days for an experienced crew handling both base prep and surface installation. Larger projects with retaining walls, multiple surface zones, or drainage integration take longer. Summer scheduling affects timing because we prioritize early-morning work hours to protect both our crew and the materials. We don't start a job until we can finish it properly, and we'll give you a realistic timeline before anything begins.
How often should pavers be sealed in Nevada's dry climate?
Most concrete and natural stone pavers benefit from resealing every two to three years in the Las Vegas climate. The combination of intense UV exposure and low humidity breaks down sealer faster than in coastal or northern climates. Sealing protects color, reduces efflorescence, and makes the surface easier to clean. Porcelain pavers are the exception: they're non-porous and don't require sealing. We'll tell you what your specific material needs during the installation consultation.
What's the slip resistance difference between travertine and concrete for pool decks?
Natural travertine has an inherently textured surface that provides solid grip when wet, which is why it's a preferred pool deck material and meets Clark County's requirements for slip resistance around pools. Concrete pavers can be slip-resistant as well, but it depends on the surface finish and texture chosen. Smooth-finished concrete or natural stone in a honed finish gets dangerously slick when wet. We specify the right finish for pool deck applications before the order is placed, not after installation.
