Las Vegas Paver Installation Done Right

Legacy Outdoor Living installs pavers across Las Vegas and the surrounding valley, covering driveways, patios, walkways, and pool decks under Nevada contractor licenses #0092251 and #0094033. If you're trying to figure out who actually knows how to build a paver surface that won't shift, sink, or crack after two summers in the desert, the short answer is: a contractor who's been doing it here for 24 years and understands what the Las Vegas valley throws at a base layer. Call (702) 508-1226 to start with a free site walk and estimate.

What separates a paver job that lasts from one that fails within three years almost always comes down to base preparation, and in Las Vegas that means dealing with caliche. Caliche is a cemented calcium carbonate layer common throughout the valley floor, and if a crew doesn't excavate through it properly before setting base rock, you'll see shifting and settlement faster than you'd expect. We dig to the correct depth for each application, compact a graded crushed aggregate base, and set a precisely screeded bedding layer before the first paver goes down. From there, pattern layout, proper jointing sand, and edge restraint on every perimeter keep the surface locked in through summer heat cycles and monsoon runoff events. Scope, square footage, material choice, site access, and existing grade all factor into final cost, and the range is wide enough that a number without a site look is just a guess. Every job is different, contact Legacy Outdoor Living for an accurate estimate.

What We Install

Every Paver Application We Cover

One crew, one license, every paver surface on your property.

Driveway Pavers

Driveways take the heaviest load on your property. We build the base for vehicle weight, not just foot traffic, and we grade for drainage away from the structure before a single paver is placed.

Patio Pavers

A well-designed patio is the anchor of any Las Vegas backyard. We work through pattern selection, drainage pitch, and edge detail so the finished surface is level, usable, and ties into your existing hardscaping services cleanly.

Walkway Pavers

Walkways need clean lines and consistent joint spacing to look right long-term. We account for foot traffic direction, slope, and how the path connects to the street, driveway, or entry before we set layout.

Pool Deck Pavers

Pool decks in Las Vegas sit in direct sun for months straight. We spec materials and finishes that stay manageable underfoot in extreme heat and drain correctly so standing water doesn't become a safety issue or a substrate problem.

Travertine Surfaces

Natural travertine is a premium option that performs well in desert heat and looks exceptional around pools and covered patios. If that's the direction you're leaning, our travertine installation page covers the specifics.

Fire Pit Surrounds and Outdoor Accents

Pavers aren't just for flat surfaces. We install around fire features, along garden walls, and as accent banding within larger hardscape designs, including outdoor kitchens and entertainment areas.

Our Process

How We Build a Las Vegas Paver Surface

  1. 01

    Excavation and Caliche Assessment

We excavate to the full required depth and evaluate the caliche layer. Standard residential patio bases run 6 to 8 inches of compacted aggregate; driveway applications go deeper. If caliche is shallow and dense, we account for it in the grading plan.

  2. 02

    Base Compaction and Drainage Grade

Crushed aggregate base goes in lifts, compacted with a plate compactor between each pass. We establish a 1/8-inch-per-foot drainage pitch minimum before screeding the bedding sand layer, so monsoon runoff moves off the surface instead of pooling under it.

  3. 03

Paver Setting, Jointing, and Edge Restraint

Pavers are set to pattern, cut to fit perimeter edges, and locked in with plastic or concrete edge restraint on every exposed side. Polymeric jointing sand goes in after final compaction to resist weed intrusion and resist washout from desert wind and rain.

Concrete Pavers vs. Natural Stone vs. Interlocking Brick in the Desert

Material choice matters more in Las Vegas than almost anywhere else in the country.

Concrete pavers are the most common choice in the Las Vegas Valley for good reason: they're consistent in thickness, which simplifies base preparation and jointing, and they hold up well through the heat-cool cycles that crack full concrete slabs over time. Natural stone like travertine or flagstone looks exceptional and stays cooler underfoot than dark concrete, but requires more careful base work because thickness varies. Interlocking clay brick is less common here because extreme UV and heat accelerate color fade faster than in milder climates. Honestly, for most Las Vegas driveways and patios, concrete pavers in a neutral desert tone hit the right balance of durability, appearance, and long-term maintenance cost. We'll tell you plainly which material fits your project and why. We're not going to upsell you on travertine for a side walkway that gets foot traffic twice a week.

Drainage and Monsoon Planning for Paver Patios

Most homeowners don't think about monsoon drainage until there's four inches of water sitting on a new patio. Las Vegas gets short, intense rain events between July and September that can overwhelm surfaces built without proper pitch planning. Every paver surface we install has a deliberate drainage grade, and on larger projects we design in yard drainage solutions at the perimeter so runoff has somewhere to go that isn't the house foundation or the neighbor's yard. This isn't optional in the Las Vegas valley. Clark County building codes address drainage requirements for impervious hardscape surfaces, and any contractor skipping that conversation is leaving you with a compliance problem and a maintenance headache.

Why Pavers Fail in Las Vegas Heat and How We Prevent It

  1. 01

    Insufficient Base Depth

A 3-inch base that would hold in a mild climate won't hold here. Summer ground temperatures in the Las Vegas valley cause more expansion and contraction than most base layers are built for. We don't cut depth to save time.

  2. 02

    Improper Caliche Management

Caliche doesn't compact the same way as native soil. Crews that treat it like standard dirt leave voids that allow differential settlement. We assess every site before we commit to a base depth recommendation.

  3. 03

    Missing Edge Restraint

Pavers migrate outward at the perimeter over time without a locked edge. In desert heat, this happens faster. We install rigid edge restraint on every exposed edge, spiked at the correct interval for the application.

  4. 04

    Wrong Jointing Sand

Standard polymeric sand can degrade faster in sustained UV exposure. We spec jointing sand rated for desert climate conditions, and we make sure the final compaction and seating is done before any sand is swept in, not the other way around.

Paver Installation Questions We Get Asked in Las Vegas

What base material works best for pavers in Las Vegas caliche soil?
Compacted Class II crushed aggregate base is standard here, but the depth depends on whether you're hitting dense caliche close to the surface. Dense caliche doesn't drain or compact the same way as native soil, so it affects how thick the aggregate layer needs to be and how we manage any subsurface water movement. We assess the soil at every site before committing to a base spec.
How deep should the base be for a paver patio or driveway in the Las Vegas Valley?
Foot-traffic patios and walkways typically need 4 to 6 inches of compacted base plus a 1-inch bedding sand layer. Driveway applications that carry vehicle loads go deeper, often 6 to 8 inches of compacted aggregate minimum. The actual depth we dig also depends on what we find once excavation starts. Sites with shallow caliche or expansive soil may require adjustment.
How do you keep weeds from growing through paver joints in Las Vegas?
Polymeric jointing sand rated for desert climate conditions is the right call here. When properly seated and compacted, it forms a semi-rigid matrix in the joint that resists weed germination and withstands the washout from intense monsoon rain events. Standard sand jointing washes out faster in the valley's short hard rains. We also make sure edge restraint is solid, because loose edges let soil migrate in at the perimeter.
How do you ensure proper drainage on a paver patio or driveway during monsoon season?
Every surface we build gets a minimum 1/8-inch-per-foot slope pitched away from the structure. On larger projects, or anywhere runoff volume could be an issue, we integrate drainage infrastructure at the perimeter so the water has a controlled exit path rather than pooling or running toward the house foundation. Las Vegas monsoon events can dump a lot of water in a short window. A paver surface with no drainage plan will show you that problem fast.
Why do pavers shift or crack in Las Vegas, and how do you prevent it during installation?
Shifting almost always comes from one of three causes: insufficient base depth, missing or failed edge restraint, or caliche that wasn't properly managed during excavation. Cracking in individual pavers is usually an impact or load problem rather than a base problem. We address all three at the construction stage, because fixing settlement after the surface is finished costs far more than getting the base right the first time.
What's the difference between concrete pavers, natural stone, and interlocking brick for desert climates?
Concrete pavers are the most practical choice for most Las Vegas applications: consistent thickness, reliable performance through heat cycles, and a wide range of finishes. Natural stone like travertine looks excellent and stays cooler underfoot, but requires more careful base work due to thickness variation. Interlocking clay brick fades faster in sustained desert UV than most homeowners expect. We'll recommend the right material for your specific project and use pattern.
